Front Door Freedom - VLOG

Are you starting to have family and friends over to your home? Is your dog jumping and barking at guests? Is your dog out of practice with greeting guests politely and quietly? Now is a great time to train!

As with any training plan, you need to use management whenever you are unable to train. Place a note on your door asking delivery folks, friends, and family not to knock or ring the doorbell. Before you expect your deliveries or guests to arrive, put your dog in a quiet area of your home, away from the front door. After everyone is settled, walk your dog on leash to great everyone.

Whenever you are able to train, train your dog to stay on a mat or towel by the front door. This will help prevent the great escape and give your dog an incompatible behavior with jumping on guests. In this video, we start with the dog close to the door. We move the dog farther away from the door when we change people coming through the door. The bigger the distraction, the greater the distance needed for success. I’ve also included what happens when the dog does start barking. Listen to my coaching to understand the training progression.
